Ireland’s coastal waters once thrived with native oyster reefs that filtered our seas, supported marine life, and strengthened entire ecosystems. Over time, those reefs disappeared and with them, a vital natural ally in ocean health.
At the Green Ocean Foundation, we’re working to bring them back.
Since 2023, our team of scientists, volunteers, and coastal communities has been restoring native oyster reefs in Dublin Bay and beyond. Every oyster returned to the water is a small act of marine conservation with a big impact: cleaner seas, richer biodiversity, and a healthier future for Ireland’s coastline.
But ocean restoration isn’t just a project — it’s a movement. And you can be part of it. Whether it’s learning more about ocean health, using your voice to champion community-led conservation, or supporting our reef restoration work, your actions help Ireland’s seas recover and thrive.
This is just the beginning. We’re excited to share our journey, our impact, and the stories of the people making waves of positive change. Together, we can restore hope beneath the waves and recover the ocean’s natural balance.
